With works by Schumann and Brahms, this concert is dedicated to the emotional depth and tonal richness of German Romanticism. Together with the award-winning violinist Anna Im, the Göttinger Symphonieorchester presents a program that ranges from the dramatic world of opera to virtuoso violin concertos and symphonic splendour.

"Genoveva" is the only opera by Schumann. It is about steadfast love and is a work of German Romanticism. The plot is based on the medieval legend of Genoveva of Brabant.

The Violin Concerto in D major is Brahms' only violin concerto and is one of the best-known works in this genre. The technical demands, with the use of double stops, broken chords, very fast scaling passages and rhythmic variations, are impressive. Schumann lived in Düsseldorf for just under four years and wrote his famous "Rhenish" Symphony there. Since its premiere in 1851, it has enjoyed a veritable triumphal march through the concert halls of the world and is now regarded as the unofficial anthem of the Rhineland.

Violinist Anna Im is celebrated for her exceptionally beautiful sound and captivating, passionate musicality. Her musical journey includes extensive concert engagements in Europe. Founded in 1862, the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra has worked with such outstanding personalities as Richard Strauss, Max Reger, Sir Georg Solti, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Martha Argerich and others. Today, around 60 musicians from 24 countries play in the orchestra.
