When Tatyana Larina and Eugene Onegin meet for the first time in the provinces, the young woman immediately falls in love with the unknown city dweller. But he cannot do anything with her love. Years later, they meet again and Eugene discovers his feelings for Tatyana. But it is too late: she is married and wants to go her own way without him. With his lyrical scenes, Pyotr Tchaikovsky wanted to create an "intimate drama" based on conflicts that he himself had experienced or witnessed. To this day, the painful experiences of the characters in "Eugene Onegin" seem timeless and placeless. Instead, Tchaikovsky invented a deeply emotional musical language that characterizes the young protagonists and their longings.
