The "Out of Service" project brings the hidden history of waste in Europe to light and at the same time highlights its importance as an indicator of social change. The journey that we embark on in the exhibition "Out of service" begins with the industrial revolution. We experience the shortages of wartime, the swelling flood of waste in the post-war consumer society and finally the barely manageable waste crisis of today. We get an impression of how profoundly our handling of waste and our understanding or lack of understanding of waste has changed in recent years. By looking at the past, the current criticism and vociferous demands for change become more relevant and significant
