The smac presents the development of Saxony from the first hunters and gatherers around 300,000 years ago to early industrialization in a spectacular setting. Around 6,200 exhibits and an extraordinary exhibition design document and highlight the development of human history in the territory of today's Free State. One highlight is the floating model of Saxony. On its journey through the three exhibition floors, it travels through the millennia as if in fast motion. At the end of 2023, the SMAC will have a new special exhibition on the archaeology of living. Home Sweet Home.

There are many millennia between the simple huts of our ancestors and our modern living culture. But all dwellings have one goal: protection. Protection from danger, from the weather, from one's own possessions and even from privacy. Developments and changes in society and technology have shaped our way of living. The exhibition follows this path and explores questions such as how and with whom people used to live, which living trends were in vogue when and whether there is actually a right to housing.
