"Hills grow out of the ground, from which rocks break. Separated by the gorge. Rocks of metal, hills of walls, penetrated by rooms and paths, reaching under the water." Günther Domenig

The internationally renowned architect Günther Domenig (1934 - 2012) shaped his childhood memories of angular rocks in the Carinthian Mölltal valley in combination with gentle hills on Lake Ossiach into his magnum opus, the DOMENIG STEINHAUS. He thus left behind a key building in the history of Austrian architecture, which has attracted worldwide attention and is attributed to deconstructivism.

In almost 30 years of planning and realization, Günther Domenig designed "architectural fragmentations" that express an elementary experience of landscape, environment and experience. Rugged polyhedrons made of steel, glass and concrete in a complex geometric spatial structure with sensational pathways make the Domenig Steinhaus a walk-in sculpture that guarantees a multi-layered, performative architectural experience in itself and makes the art of building tangible. The building has been a listed building since 2012. In 2016, the DOMENIG STEINHAUS became the youngest house museum to be included in the international ICONIC HOUSES platform. In addition to guided tours and concerts, the Domenig Steinhaus focuses on architectural workshops and performance art.
