The utopian Dea Loher, who once studied "Scenic Writing" with Heiner Müller, is characterized by a precise and loving view of her characters, her language is both unsparing and poetic. "Das letzte Feuer" was awarded the Mülheim Drama Prize in 2008 and was named "Play of the Year" by the trade journal Theater heute.

An eight-year-old boy dies during a car chase. A policewoman believes she has recognized a wanted assassin in the fugitive Olaf. Rabe, the stranger, is the only witness. The former soldier has ended up on the outskirts of this city. He encounters fragile existences such as Karoline with her cancer, Susanne and Ludwig with the loss of their only child and old Rosa, whose dementia causes her to painfully relive the fact that her grandson died in an accident. In their attempt to overcome the crises and defy their own fate, the characters are caught up in their own history. It is difficult to forget. But: they may have lost everything, but they hold on to their longing. The longing for an encounter beyond the pain. "It has to go on. Not true. The piano has to be played. The bread must be cut. The heart must beat."
