What would the world be like if it were different from what it is? Perhaps it would be a world in which estate managers are actually counts after all, vaudeville dancers countesses? Perhaps it would be a world in which - against all better judgment - everything turns out well in the end? This evening is about exactly that: about carefree laughter and dreaming. Because if you listen carefully, if you get involved in the stories, the dreams, the melodies of the operettas, then there is a lot to experience, enjoy and laugh about.
The artist Armando Cellini has won an important prize for his painting "Mask in Blue". An unknown lady he met at a masked ball posed for him and promised to return to San Remo in a year's time. Armando receives the rich Argentinian Evelyne Valera without knowing that she is the model. After she reveals herself to be the "mask in blue", they both confess their love for each other. But Pedro dal Vegas is also trying to win Evelyne's favor (or is it just her money?).
Evelyne and Armando's engagement is to be announced at a party. But the affair falls through - and of course Pedro had a hand in it. Back in Argentina, Evelyne tries to forget Armando, but he personally makes his way to her hacienda. And in the end? Everything turns out well! In Berlin in the 1920s and early 1930s, light music and theater were on a world-class level and were in no way inferior to Broadway. When the National Socialists seized power, most of the artists had to flee. Fred Raymond stayed and came to terms with the situation. His works, however, remained characterized by the golden age of the 1920s and its international flair.
