The film "Gladiator" became a hit with audiences - not only because of its outstanding actors, but also because of the monumental soundscapes created by film composer Hans Zimmer together with Lisa Gerrad. The Golden Globe Award-winning and Oscar-nominated soundtrack is impressive even in a normal movie theater - played live by over 150 performers, it becomes an event.
At the end of January 2025, the cinematic concert spectacle will return to the KKL Luzern - presented by the 21st Century Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Ludwig Wicki, who will provide the soundtrack in brilliant quality in front of the specially installed cinema screen.
Maximus is a powerful Roman general who is loved by the people and the ageing emperor Marcus Aurelius. Before his death, the emperor chooses Maximus as his heir rather than his own son Commodus. A power struggle leads to Maximus and his family being sentenced to death. Unable to save his family, the powerful general is captured and sold by slave traders to fight in the Colosseum. The only thing that drives him now is the chance to take revenge on Commodus, regain his dignity, avenge his family and win freedom for his people.
