Kate Diehn-Bitt (1900-1978) is an exceptional artist in the Rostock art scene. Her life and extensive oeuvre tell of the historical upheavals of the 20th century and the social and private turbulence of a painter. Within the New Objectivity, an art style that emerged exactly one hundred years ago, she is increasingly being recognized internationally. This is demonstrated by recent exhibitions in Paris, Copenhagen, Vienna and Mannheim.

As part of the exhibition series Artists and their Perception, sponsored by the Ostdeutsche Sparkassen Stiftung and the OSPA, the Kunsthalle Rostock is once again dedicating an extensive exhibition to the work of Kate Diehn-Bitt after more than twenty years. In addition to the impressive collection of paintings and drawings from the museum's own collection, numerous loans from museums and private collections will be presented, some for the first time.
As a special exploration, the sculptor Susanne Rast (*1960) is showing her own works in combination with works by Kate Diehn-Bitt.
The exhibition is being organized in cooperation with the Kate Diehn-Bitt Foundation. At the same time, the 35th state-wide art show of the BBK Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the first floor of the Kunsthalle Rostock, entitled UNANGEBRACHT, will focus on aspects of the Rostock painter's artistic life.
