With intoxicating and life-hungry sounds, the works on this concert program tell of the creative urge and breakthrough of their composers.
Richard Strauss's symphonic poem Don Juan was a great success with the public. Its heroic tone immediately won over the young composer. His virtuoso Burleske for piano and orchestra, on the other hand, was only gradually appreciated. No wonder, because its technical refinements are breakneck and its tone cynical, making it hard to know whether to take the work seriously or as a joke - a masterpiece of tongue-in-cheek musical satire. Antonín Dvořák wrote his 8th Symphony in a phase of international triumph and was literally overwhelmed by the countless musical ideas that found their way into the work.
