The 2009 musical is based on the cartoon series of the same name by Charles Addams, which has been filmed several times, including as a cult TV series that ran in Germany in the 1970s.
Wednesday Addams has become a young woman and has fallen in love. Lucas and she even want to get married, but this is unlikely to meet with her parents' approval. A dinner together at the Addams' house is supposed to fix it and at some point that evening there will be an opportunity to tell everyone about the plans. So far, so normal and commonplace. Except that the Addams are anything but normal and their way of life is anything but ordinary.
The Addams are "goths", and what others consider the purest horror movie, they call a cosy get-together. Wednesday does everything she can to get her family, including her masochistically inclined little brother Pugsley, her resolute grandma and her uncle Fester with his ancestral choir, to engage in ordinary earthly communication, but it's not easy. And Lucas' parents also turn out to be stranger than expected.
