With Zoroastre, Jean-Philippe Rameau created a great operatic spectacle of the French Baroque.
In the fabulous plot about Zoroastre, the master of magicians, and his arch-enemy, the high priest Abramane, the forces of nature are at work and good and evil spirits meet. While Abramane allies himself with the power-hungry Princess Erinice because he wants to ascend the throne, Zoroastre and the real heir to the throne, Amélite, strive for peace. Between envy and remorse, the characters struggle through a demonic conflict of light and darkness. Their conflict illustrates how peace can be achieved.
