The surveillance state, the constant feeling of being threatened by war, the arbitrariness of power - how close are we actually living to George Orwell's famous dystopia? And to what extent is the order in which we live a mirror of ourselves?

In 1984 - Love in the Mirror, the Volkstheater's in-house choreographer Laura Witzleben explores the expressive possibilities with which the novel can be expressed in movement and dance, music, language, stage and costume - satirically exaggerated and at the same time truthful: in the world, the urge of the few for total power has prevailed and become socially entrenched.
Following the biographical, highly successful journey of Wilde's life, the dance ensemble now tells of the resistant power of two lovers who defy the conditions of omnipresent mistrust, of propaganda madness and also of physical pain. They experience strictness and control, fear and paranoia, but also the insatiable urge for freedom. In a sparse stage setting, the result is a gripping and haunting experience - proving that this classic remains timelessly relevant.
