Under the motto "Garden and Wine", the Garden Year 2025 in Constance and on Lake Constance combines the splendor of the region's gardens with the exciting history of the Müller-Thurgau wine variety. Cross-border gardens and events in Germany and Switzerland invite you to learn about paradisiacal seas of flowers, traditional cottage gardens, fragrant herbs and the history of viticulture. The garden year combines the present and the past in a delightful way.

Flower Island
In Constance, the Mainau flower island delights visitors all year round: from the orchid show in spring with over 3,000 orchids from all over the world to beguilingly fragrant roses in summer and dahlias that glow in all colors in autumn. In winter, the Christmas Garden enchants visitors with glittering light installations and sparkling Christmas magic.

Wine culture
This year, the Constance Hospital Foundation is celebrating its 800th anniversary. The Spitalkellerei Konstanz also turns 800, making it the oldest foundation winery in Germany. It combines wine enjoyment with historical insights, for example on the new city tour with cellar tour and on a guided walk to the vineyards in Haltnau, including a stop for refreshments. The Müller-Thurgau wine variety has been cultivated for 150 years, and 100 years ago the smuggling of vines brought it to the German side of Lake Constance. Events such as the smuggler's tour with a visit to the vineyard and tasting, exhibitions on wine history and events at the Arenenberg vineyard take you on a journey through this exciting history.

Forest tour
In addition to gardens and parks, Constance even has a forest for natural recreation in the city area: the Loretto Forest, which has belonged to the hospital foundation since 1907. On guided hikes, the forester takes you into Constance's favorite forest and discusses future issues such as keeping the forest healthy in the face of climate change, sustainable forest management and the long-term preservation of the habitat for animals and plants. An ideal opportunity to enjoy the fresh forest air and gain new knowledge about nature.
