On two floors of the Spendhaus, seven artists represented by larger groups of works in the collection of the Kunstmuseum Reutlingen will be given a forum for their tangible engagement with art: the common denominator of the exhibited works is wood, whether as a material for three-dimensional objects or woodcuts.

Since the early history of mankind, wood has been used as a material for building houses, making everyday objects or sculptures: after all, woodworking is one of the oldest craft techniques. With regard to the easy-to-work material and the depiction theme, the figure dominates in the history of sculpture, while in letterpress it is the drawing cut into the wood as well as words in which imagery and content are told. The Kunstmuseum Reutlingen owns numerous woodcuts and printing blocks, but donations of three-dimensional art have also enriched the collection over time. After all, it is the Kunstmuseum's scholarships and prizes that promote contemporary artists and bring current artistic positions to the collection.
The exhibition "Wood. Sculpture, Relief and Works from Paper" in which works by Martine Andernach, Felix Droese, Matthias Mansen, Olaf Metzel / Ulrich Görlich, Rolf Wicker and Christian Wulffen are shown. The haptic, spatial and visual presence of wood is the starting point for the juxtaposition of different artistic approaches, in which aesthetic, socio-political or perceptual questions become visible.
