"Three times left is right" is a performance about the challenge of living together between radical opposites under the same roof. A family portrait that explores the relationship between the populist right and the liberal left.
Julian Hetzel's new work is inspired by the story of a cultural scientist living in Vienna with a communist past and his wife, his former student, who is a leading intellectual of the New Right and the Identitarian movement. The mismatched couple have three children and negotiate seemingly irreconcilable positions at the kitchen table and in public.
For "Three times left is right", actress Kristien de Proost and actor Josse de Pauw, who also live together as a couple outside the theater, enter an artificial world loosely based on that of the opposing academic couple. A project that aims to extend this seemingly impossible family construction to a national, European and even global level. What does it mean to live together and share a space with people who have a radically different belief system or set of values?
