The British bestselling author John le Carré wrote the screenplay for the German espionage film endstation in 1973. This gripping duel between two disparate characters in psychologically dense and sophisticated dialog was written by someone who should know: after all, John le Carré himself worked for the British secret service before becoming a globally acclaimed author.

Psychological duel on the night train: mathematician Alfred Frayne works for the British nuclear weapons program and regularly commutes back and forth between London and Edinburgh. One evening, the young vicar Paul Bagley boards the train in Edinburgh and unexpectedly takes a seat in Frayne's compartment, which has always been empty. Frayne is immediately suspicious: is Bagley really a genuine vicar? Or is he a spy who has been set on him? After all, until recently Frayne himself was in close contact with a Soviet secret service spy called Charlie, to whom he passed on secret information. And this Charlie has now disappeared ... In a fast-paced exchange of blows, both try to find out the true identity and goals of the other - until the bitter and surprising end!
