"Music must never offend the ear, but must give pleasure." Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Among Parry's most popular orchestral works are his "Symphonic Variations". Composed in 1897, the year of Johannes Brahms' death, Parry went his own way here, although Brahms was one of his most important role models, by basing his 27 variations on a four-movement symphonic form.
Three years before his death, Brahms composed his last chamber music work, the Clarinet Sonata in E flat major op. 120 No. 2, which he wrote for the solo clarinettist of the Meiningen Court Orchestra. The clarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer has arranged this work for orchestra and will personally play the solo part in the world premiere of the orchestral version. Also three years before his death - and one year after the premiere of the opera "Don Giovanni" - Mozart completed his last three symphonies Nos. 39-41 in 1788 in a very short time, of which the work in E flat major, reminiscent of Haydn, concludes the concert evening with a theatrical gesture.
