Looking at porcelain, silverware and table decorations, the new exhibition at the Kaiserjägermuseum traces social life on the Bergisel.
The Kaiserjäger invite you to the table. Until April 29, 2024, fine porcelain, exquisite silverware and table decorations in the Kaiserjägermuseum tell of long-gone celebrations and festivities on the Bergisel. The exhibition focuses on the heyday of the Kaiserjäger around 1900. Even then, both smaller gatherings and large celebrations could hardly do without an extensive dinner, so the tableware and cutlery preserved in the Kaiserjäger depot directly reflects the former table and festive culture. It should not be considered an example of the Imperial Huntsmen alone, but of the upper middle classes of the time.

A festively laid table makes it easy for visitors to the exhibition to imagine how people once dined and drank here on Bergisel. Historical photos, postcards and paintings also convey the atmosphere of various celebrations, such as the centenary of the Battle of Bergisel, which was also attended by Emperor Franz Joseph I. One of the highlights among the photographs and the exhibits as a whole is a photomontage by Salzburg photographer Eduard Bertel (1856 - 1923). The picture shows more than a hundred officers socializing at table.
The exhibition "Table culture of the Kaiserjäger. Celebrations at Bergisel" also turns away from the military background of the Kaiserjäger and focuses on social life at Bergisel. Thematically, it builds on its predecessor exhibition, which was dedicated to the Biedermeier period at Bergisel with Baron von Roßbach and traced the transformation of the place from a military to a place to linger and enjoy. The thematic course of these two projects will also be maintained for the future exhibition program at the Kaiserjägermuseum.
