On the first weekend in July, jazz fans from all over Germany and beyond have been coming together for the Eldena Jazz Evenings in the Eldena monastery ruins in Greifswald since 1981.

In the midst of the symbol of German Romanticism, international greats and established artists from the German jazz scene are presented alongside up-and-coming formations from Germany and abroad. Enjoy two evenings with three concerts each in a special atmosphere. "The concert nights begin in the evening sun, which almost magically illuminates the brick-red walls in the concert hall open to the sky" (Heti Brunzel/NDR) and end shortly before midnight in the middle of the illuminated walls under the night sky.

Eldena monastery ruins
A gem on the European Route of Brick Gothic. Caspar David Friedrich, who was born in Greifswald in 1774, made it one of the main motifs in his paintings. Inspired by him, early German monument preservation dedicated itself to this important ensemble. The Eldena monastery ruins owe their international fame to this. As one of Greifswald's best-known landmarks on the "European Route of Brick Gothic", the Eldena monastery ruins connect the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald with the medieval brick architecture landscape around the Baltic Sea. In addition to its cultural and architectural significance, the Eldena monastery ruins are a unique venue with a national reputation. For theater performances, classical and popular music concerts such as the Eldena Monastery Market and the Eldena Jazz Evenings.
