In this exhibition, Wolfgang Ammer takes you on a journey through socio-political world events.
Wolfgang Ammer spent many years traveling, constantly working on his drawn political commentaries. The works of the native Upper Austrian bear witness to a profound view of people, social developments and political systems. For decades, Ammer has been engaged in an artistic dialog with the political scene in Austria and abroad. His works for the Wiener Zeitung (until 2023) are well-known. Internationally, his caricatures and editorial cartoons have appeared in the New York Times, the Asahi Shimbun (Tokyo) and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung(FAZ).
The caricatures on display give you an insight into Wolfgang Ammer's global vision: A spirited kick from Boris Johnson foreshadows Brexit in one work. In another work, the artist shows Joe Biden and Xi Jinping wrestling for the world on a soccer pitch. Entering into a dialog with Wolfgang Ammer's paintings not only evokes a liberating laugh, but also an effective confrontation with what is seen.
