The Mecklenburg State Orchestra Schwerin is one of the oldest orchestras in Germany. Its official birth can be traced back to an initiative of the Duke of Mecklenburg, Johann Albrecht, who hired David Köhler from Zwickau as conductor in 1563. Mark Rohde has been General Music Director since the 2020/2021 season.

The 5th symphony concert is entirely tailored to the "Artist in Residence" Nils Wanderer. The Baroque period was the heyday of his vocal fach and numerous musical treasures have been handed down from this era, which Nils Wanderer and the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle - performing in a small formation - will present in their program for Passiontide. The conductor is none other than the Italian contralto Sonia Prina, who is herself one of the outstanding interpreters of Baroque music and has also made a name for herself in recent years as a conductor specializing in historically informed performance practice. Also taking part is violinist Anna Im, first prize winner of the 2024 Guadagnini Competition.
