In May 2024, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne will make its first guest appearance at Dortmund Opera House. The Swiss company was founded by Maurice Béjart in 1987 and is one of the most sought-after companies in the ballet world with worldwide guest performances and sensational productions at the highest level.

The focus of the program is Gil Roman's "Tous les hommes presque toujours s'imaginent". The beginning of Gil Roman's "Tous les hommes presque toujours s'imaginent" is strongly reminiscent of Bejart. Dancers meditate cross-legged in a semi-circle with their backs to the audience. Here, too, the men have bare upper bodies. Or do they not? On closer inspection, you can see that they are wearing thin, skin-colored bodices.

Other details in the hour-long piece are also reminiscent of Béjart. But overall, the atmosphere is much softer with Gil Roman, star dancer under Béjart and his successor as director from 2008. In terms of content, one is reminded of the rituals of a somewhat unworldly group of people who have contact with various tribes, but also with Calvary and a host of angels. In a supporting role, ma discovers Elisabet Ros, also a popular dancer from Béjart's time. Slow parts predominate in this ballet, often in deliberate contrast to the varied music by John Zorn with its jazz influences. The main couple Vito Pansini and Jasmine Cammarota - a paragon of flexibility and grace - dance on lightly clad feet in a contemporary style that bears little resemblance to classical dance.
