The altonale is northern Germany's most comprehensive and diverse cultural event. It sees itself as a festival of cultural diversity with an interdisciplinary and participatory focus. Several hundred individual events from the fields of art, theater, film, music, literature and youth take place every year during the 17 days of the festival in early summer. The altonale is always looking for new and unusual locations for its program.
The festival center on Platz der Republik is an integral part of the altonale. Here, visitors can look forward to a current program from all altonale cultural sectors for two weeks. Further highlights: The altonale flea market around the park, the art market on the Christianswiese, the Buntes Altona information mile and the STAMP street art festival, which is traditionally celebrated on the last weekend of the festival at the same time as the altonale street festival.
With a program of music, film, theater, art, dance, literature and street art, the altonale takes place over a festival period of around two weeks, both indoors and outdoors, at many unusual locations throughout Altona. The unifying factor is the artistic interpretation of an annually changing main theme.
