There was boundless jubilation in the imperial spa town of Baden near Vienna when it was announced last summer that the town had been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the Great Spa Towns of Europe. This world-renowned accolade elevated Baden to the illustrious circle of Europe's most important spa towns.
But what is it that makes this special city so appealing?

Trendy lifestyle in a historic setting
Founded around the natural healing springs, a unique architecture developed that still characterizes the historic cityscape today, such as the main square ensemble, the Grand Casino, the summer arena and the numerous villas. The wonderful landscape of the Vienna Woods and the spa gardens are part of this grandiose setting.
At the same time, Baden has always been a place of relaxed lifestyle and modernity. This tradition of the avant-garde continues to this day. A summer retreat in Baden near Vienna means experiencing the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival, Europe's largest open-air photo exhibition, exploring the city on World Heritage guided tours, relaxing on the sandy beach at the thermal baths, unwinding at delightful picnics or listening to wonderful concerts in the moonlight above the city's rooftops. A pleasure for all the senses with a soothing slowness and together with the people of Baden who love their city so much!

Festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo 2022
NORDWÄRTS! was the title of the La Gacilly-Baden Photo 2022 festival and is an opportunity to highlight the often little-known creative power of artists from Northern Europe who, since the dawn of photography, have maintained an almost carnal connection with the rawness of their homeland. The inhabitants of Scandinavia have developed a centuries-old tradition of political consensus, rejection of conflict and social development based on the strict conservation of natural resources. For the inhabitants of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, solitude and wild nature are an essential part of their relationship with the world.
Artists who bring us closer to Scandinavia in a very special way are: Sune Jonsson, Pentti Sammallahti, Tiina Itkonen, Ragnar Axelsson, Tine Poppe, Sanna Kannisto, Erik Johansson, Helena Blomquist, Jonas Bendiksen, Jonathan Nächstrand and Olivier Morin.
THROUGH THE MAGIC OF 28 PICTURE COUNTS in 1,500 photographs on canvases of up to 280 square meters, the gardens, alleyways and squares of Baden are transformed into a city of pictures. From June 9 to October 16, 2022, the public space will become the backdrop for a complete work of art and Europe's largest open-air gallery. Starting from the visitor center at Brusattiplatz, the festival will extend in two routes through the old town of Baden as well as through Doblhoffpark, Gutenbrunner Park and Kurpark - 7 kilometers long.
In addition, with two works by Nick Brandt, the festival sheds light on a world in which there is hardly any room left for animals to survive, and with the work "The Tears of Tigris" by Mathias Depardon, it shows that the Garden of Eden exists - and is in danger.
The 2022 program is rounded off by the works of world-class Austrian photographers: Inge Morath, Christine de Grancy and Verena Andrea Prenner - as well as a photographic tribute to "100 Years of Lower Austria".

Chilling on the sandy beach and active in the Vienna Woods
Who knows the most popular sandy beach in Austria? But there's much more to experience at Baden's thermal beach. In addition to the unique sandy areas, there is plenty of fun with water slides, wave pools and co. and even healing thermal water in the sulphur pools for perfect relaxation. Summer sends its regards! The people of Baden love the special lifestyle of their city, go hiking and cycling in the cool Vienna Woods, refresh themselves on the Schwechat in the much-vaunted Helenental or experience great culture in the Beethoven House, where the genius wrote the Ode to Joy.
And in the evening? Meet up with friends and guests at the Heurigen, taste the excellent wines, go to a lively operetta in the summer arena or have exciting gambling fun at Casino Baden.

Wonderful sounds above the rooftops of the city
It's often the little things in life that make us happy and give us a special feeling. Lying in the meadow, listening to the wonderful sounds of classical music or swinging jazz, looking down on the city lights or enjoying culinary delights next to the fragrant splendor of 25,000 roses in Austria's largest rosarium.
