"The slow movement from Dvořák's violin concerto is one of the most beautiful in the entire concerto literature. It really is the heart of the work!" says Joshua Bell about the Adagio from the composer's only contribution to the genre.
Dvořák was a master at "writing melodies with soul", as a violinist once said. His Bohemian roots are reflected in the combination of folk music and emotional depth in his works. Under the motto "The Bohemian in music", the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia will perform an evening with a star-studded cast: Dvořák's violin concerto will be framed by works by Gustav Mahler, whose music is also strongly influenced by his Bohemian-Moravian roots, such as in the third movement of his first symphony.
