Legends tell of extraordinary, supernatural or miraculous events. They tell stories in which ghosts, witches and devils appear or they deal with historical events and figures. Legends can be found in all regions of Switzerland, with Central Switzerland being particularly rich in legends.

The Legendary Alpine Region exhibition focuses on well-known legends such as William Tell, the Devil's Bridge, the Black Spider, the Pilatus Dragon, the Blüemlisalp, the Sennentuntschi and the Toggeli. From the Lucerne dragon stone and "Tell's crossbow" to manuscripts from the 17th and 18th centuries and magical objects of protection, the atmospherically staged exhibition features original objects, many of which come from the Lucerne Museum collection.
Film clips and 77 legends from all linguistic regions of Switzerland give visitors the shivers and guarantee goosebumps. Anyone who knows other legends or wants to invent one themselves can become part of the exhibition with their story. The legend can be performed spontaneously in a shadow play in the Historical Museum. Legendary Alpine Region is an exhibition of the Swiss National Museum.
