The Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin is an innovative concert hall that impresses with its unusual circular architecture and excellent acoustics. It was designed by star architect Frank Gehry and offers a varied program with a focus on classical music, contemporary works and intercultural projects.
For his debut as bandleader at the Pierre Boulez Saal, Canadian guitarist and oud player Gordon Grdina has invited an international group of artists from different musical traditions to perform together for the first time. With the support of Belgian-Tunisian singer Ghalia Benali, RU'YA (Arabic for "foresight" or "vision") makes sound, poetry and the human voice the starting point for a musical experiment that connects continents, cultures and genres. Inspired by poems from Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Tunisia, Egypt and Belgium, RU'YA creates a musical space of joy, unity and shared humanity.
