"Lucio Silla" is a gripping psychogram that explores the dark side of human passions.

In this early Mozart opera, lust for power, jealousy and envy characterize the story of a pair of lovers who stand together against a despotic tyrant. Inspired by one of the darkest episodes in Roman history, the 16-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart unleashes a highly emotional, profound drama in this masterpiece. Lucio Silla rules with an iron hand and takes vehement action against anyone who opposes him. He also banishes his political opponent Cecilio, but he secretly returns to his homeland to see his lover Giunia again. However, Silla has long since convinced Giunia that Cecilio is dead and wants to force her to marry him. Now Cecilio must stand up to the tyrannical ruler together with Giunia.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed "Lucio Silla" as a commissioned work for Milan. With its multi-faceted orchestration, a penchant for darkness and bold dramaturgical design, in which plot and music are closely linked, Mozart swam against the tide at the time. He created an opera that reaches far beyond all conventions.
