The Eutin Festival gets off to a flying start: A completely renovated venue with a modern grandstand and almost 2000 comfortable seats is put into operation with a grandiose program. Outstanding productions await on the extended lake stage: The musical "Jesus Christ Superstar", the opera "Der Freischütz" as well as ten concerts with well-known artists and orchestral productions.
Yes, it will work with the first performance in the new "home". This is confirmed by the Managing Director of the Eutin Festival, Falk Herzog. Together with his colleague Anna-Luise Hoffmann, who is responsible for the artistic side, he has put together the program for the 2024 festival. The festival and the new grandstand will be opened on June 28, 2024 with a festive ceremony - "for invited guests and Eutin residents," says Falk Herzog.
This year, the opera that started it all in 1951 will also be back: "We thought about what would be appropriate for the premiere of the new grandstand," says Herzog, giving an insight into the planning, "And what opera could be better than 'Der Freischütz'?" The festival was founded in honor of the Eutin-born composer Carl Maria Weber. The director in 2024 is Anthony Pilavachi, who is particularly well-known for his productions in Lübeck, but also internationally. In addition to "Der Freischütz", Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" will also be performed in front of the new grandstand: "We decided on something rocky this time," says Anna-Luise Hoffmann. Even though "West Side Story" was originally planned for 2024, it has been secured for 2025 instead. The festival program will be supplemented by ten concerts with outstanding artists.
Gustav Peter Wöhler is actually known as an actor (including "7 Zwerge - Der Wald ist nicht genug"). At the festival, however, Wöhler appears as a singer. "When Gustav Peter Wöhler is on stage, he's a real grenade!" says a delighted Falk Herzog. Jazz singer Tom Gaebel presents his best-of show - returning to Eutin for the first time after performing at the 2016 State Garden Show. Gaebel will also host the opening ceremony on June 28, according to Herzog.
A cappella fans will get their money's worth in Eutin in 2024: the successor band to the well-known "Wise Guys", the formation "Alte Bekannte", will perform at the festival: "It's just good fun," says Anna-Luise Hoffmann.
In addition to Gustav Peter Wöhler, Yvonne Catterfeld, a second singing TV personality, will be coming to the Schlossgarten (September 4, 2024). In addition to eight published music albums, Yvonne Catterfeld has appeared as an actress in various film and television productions, as well as hosting television shows. Since 2016, she has appeared in the ARD crime series "Wolfsland" alongside Götz Schubert as Görlitz detective Viola Delbrück. Since 2022, the singer and actress has been playing an acoustic tour with her best-of hits from her 20-year stage career. And on September 5, 2024, the NDR BIGBAND will meet Spanish musician Pablo Martín Caminero. Pablo Martín Caminero, who comes from the Basque country, is one of the most successful jazz soloists, bandleaders and composers in Spain. His passion is the combination of flamenco and jazz. Together with the NDR Bigband, he has proven just how brilliant this can be.
Pablo's arranger of choice for this major project was Geir Lysne, the Norwegian-born chief conductor of the NDR Bigband. He enriches the orchestral project with intense blues and multi-layered jazz arrangements.
The festival will conclude with two gala evenings entitled "Viva la Musica" on September 7 and 8, 2024, for which Hilary Griffiths will return to the stage - albeit a new one.
