A cage full of fools is a timeless and wonderfully funny story about family values, unconditional love and the need to show moral courage in life.

Georges and Albin have been a couple for almost 30 years. Georges is the owner of the travesty club La cage aux folles and Albin is the star of the evening show as Zaza. The two are a happy couple until Georges' son - a "misstep" from his youth - announces that he is to marry the daughter of a well-known ultra-right-wing politician who, among other things, has set himself the goal of standing up for morality and decency and therefore against entertainment and nightclubs.
Lorenz wants to present an impeccable family to his bride's parents. So the biological mother is summoned to the family reunion, but Albin is told not to make an appearance at all. Albin is deeply shocked, as he has raised Lorenz as his own son all these years. When the biological mother is late, Albin seizes the opportunity and slips into her role to the delight and horror of father and son. This pushes the family bonds to the limit, and the feather boas look pretty ruffled afterwards.
Jean Poiret's cult comedy not only pokes fun at stubborn social conventions, but also tells a touching love story. Because when the heart and the norm collide relentlessly, there is always plenty to laugh about.
