The exhibition provides an exemplary insight into the fascinating work of Birgitta Weimer with around 30 works.

Birgitta Weimer's sculptural oeuvre moves between the poles of art and science. A clear, reduced design is combined with formal creations that have been developed in dialog with the natural sciences and humanities. In terms of content, the artist's work revolves around core questions of existence. Above all, findings and considerations from the field of biosciences, but also from physics, anthropology and philosophy, inspire her sculptural works. Ecological themes resonate just as much as post-structuralist ways of thinking.

Birgitta Weimer's works are impressive because pictorial opposites interact effortlessly in them: Geometric conciseness and rigor, as known from concrete art or minimalism, are combined with amorphous structures that at first glance appear disordered or chaotic. Hard, angular forms meet soft, flowing ones; opaque elements meet transparent or reflective ones.
In the case of the work series Resources (1996-2008), the sculptor combines the accurate form of the square with real nature, as seeds of one variety are cast in kerosene in each of the small picture blocks. For the most part, however, she works exclusively with technical materials such as steel, silicone, mirrors, plastic or Vinnylan tubes. She uses them to create works that are reminiscent of elementary natural forms or the building blocks of life, such as molecular structures or blood vessels. Some are inspired by creatures of the sea or plant structures; others present themselves as network-like meshes that refer to circulatory systems or models of theoretical physics.

Finally, Birgitta Weimer illuminates themes such as reflection, development and growth in her Mindscapes (2022/23). In the colourful object boxes, small glass elements on a mirrored background combine to form proliferating structures that visualize the multi-layered world of consciousness spaces. These works are exemplary of the artist's ongoing search for answers in an increasingly complex reality in which everything is connected to everything else.
