In the Pierre Boulez Saal, the focus is on "music for the thinking ear": the audience is invited to listen actively and encounter sounds with undivided attention. Emotions, thoughts, visual and acoustic impressions enter into a complex interrelationship.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Pierre Boulez's birth a few days later, the Boulez Ensemble under the direction of Matthias Pintscher will perform sur Incises, the last major ensemble work by the composer, who died in 2016. The program is completed by Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola and harp and Pintscher's own beyond II (bridge over troubled water) for the same trio line-up, which can now be heard live in the Pierre Boulez Saal for the first time following its premiere at the digital Festival of New Music in summer 2020.
