With the reopening of the Wien Museum on Karlsplatz, the MUSA regains its original dedication as an exhibition venue for contemporary art and starts with the 2000s as a continuation of the successful decade series from the collection holdings.

Bye-bye confidence - the first decade of the new century: the feeling of a new beginning after a happily survived millennium was abruptly ended on September 11, 2001, with the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York. Artists dealt with themes such as migration, the convergence of aesthetics and economics, collective memory and alienated nature. The observation of one's own body and the burgeoning selfie cult thanks to the new smartphones were also frequently addressed and nameless urban situations were documented with the camera as non-places. Painting was able to assert itself and celebrated a continuation in diversity.
