London in the 19th century. A judicial crime committed years ago sets a single man's gruesome vendetta in motion!

The barber Benjamin Barker was innocently convicted by Judge Turpin, sent into exile and deprived of his wife and daughter. He returns to London under the name Sweeney Todd, resumes his profession as a barber and joins forces with the pastry baker Mrs. Lovett to kill Turpin in an act of vigilante justice. Anyone who stands in his way falls victim to his razor and is turned into pie by Mrs. Lovett. Sweeney Todd spirals into a veritable bloodlust ...
The material for Stephen Sondheim's pitch-black musical goes back to a dime novel and a 19th century horror play based on it. Elements of horror and psychological thriller, grand guignol and morality play are uniquely combined in the piece. In 1979, the year of its premiere, "Sweeney Todd" won nine Tony Awards and quickly spread to stages all over the world as one of the most successful musicals of the 20th century.
