In 1983, "La Cage aux Folles" was the first musical to deal with a homosexual theme. After its premiere on Broadway in New York, it conquered the stages of Europe within a few years. With its turbulent story, quirky characters and snappy music, it is still very popular today and remains timelessly topical with its plea to trust one's own feelings and live authentically.
Georges and Albin have been a couple for many years. The center of their lives is Georges' nightclub "La Cage aux Folles", where Albin is the star among the transvestites as "Zaza". Together they have also raised George's son Jean-Michel, the product of a "youthful sin", with a great deal of care. When he wants to marry the love of his life, Anne, the daughter of an arch-conservative politician, he sees the need for action, because now a bourgeois environment has to be created quickly before the families meet for the first time ...
