Hamlet is a revenge thriller, political drama, family tragedy and coming-of-age story all rolled into one. The play tells of the clash between old and new order, of the tensions between individuality and social constraints and of (survival) life in a deeply reprehensible political system.

Hamlet is also theater in the theater and thus highlights the inherent power of stage action: to search for the truth through the play on stage and thus to achieve life. The Danish prince Hamlet, the protagonist in William Shakespeare's play of the same name, written around 1600, is one of the most complex characters the theater has ever produced. From university in Wittenberg, Hamlet hurries back to court in Denmark to attend his father's funeral. The young man is deeply irritated not only by the fact that his uncle Claudius has taken the crown, but also that his mother Gertrud has married him so soon after her husband's death. One night, the ghost of his father appears to him and reveals that he has succumbed to an insidious attack by his brother Claudius. He calls on his son to avenge the murder. And Hamlet? Unable to act, he initially entrenches himself behind a mask of madness in order to escape the madness of the world ...
