The interactive special exhibition "Play along!" invites visitors to explore the world of play and toys. With hands-on stations, activity cards and a central play arena, the exhibition offers a wide range of opportunities for active participation and discovery.
A special feature is the presentation of a historic children's room from the 1940s, which provides an insight into the play world of a girl from Halle, whose parents made most of the toys themselves. Around 150 indoor and outdoor toys are also on display, illustrating the development of children's games over different generations. Visitors can also get active themselves and try out classic games such as marbles and rubber hopscotch.
The "Favorite toys" section shows toys from Halle residents that are associated with personal memories. The collection will be continuously expanded over the course of the exhibition, with the stories about the individual toys being told by their owners.
The exhibition also addresses critical aspects of play. For example, electronic toys are used to illustrate that gaming behavior can bring with it challenges such as gaming addiction or cyberbullying. The historical significance of war toys, which reflect the political and ideological influences of different eras, is also highlighted.
